Kabacan: Anti-narcotics operatives stumbled upon an unlicensed high-powered firearm while serving a search warrant against a drug suspect on Wednesday in Kabacan, North Cotabato. Agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Soccsksargen (PDEA-12) and their partner agencies seized illegal drugs and an M14 rifle from the suspect's house.
According to Philippines News Agency, PDEA-12 Regional Director Charlene Magdurulang stated that the operation in Sitio Lumayong, Barangay Kayaga, Kabacan, led to the arrest of a 45-year-old suspect identified as 'Sammy,' a resident of the area and a member of a private armed group. "Recovered during the 5 p.m. operation were 20 small plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing five grams with a street market value of PHP34,000 and an M14 rifle with four magazines, 45 rounds of ammunition and a mobile phone," Magdurulang said in a report on Thursday.
The arrested suspect, who is currently detained at the Kabacan Municipal Police Station (MPS), will be charged with violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. "The successful operation underscores the continued commitment of PDEA-12 and its partner law enforcement units to intensify anti-drug operations and maintain peace and order in the community," Magdurulang said as she commended the operating units.
