Manila: The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has dispatched additional "ChariTimba" food packs to residents affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao last week. The relief goods were loaded into a Philippine Air Force (PAF) C-295 aircraft at Villamor Air Base and departed for General Santos City at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles stated that the agency continues to work closely with national and local government partners to ensure that relief aid reaches affected families as quickly as possible. "Through our continuing coordination with the Office of Civil Defense and other partner agencies, we are working to ensure that relief assistance reaches those who need it most," Robles said in a statement.
The packages contain essential food items intended to help sustain families during emergencies and displacement. The latest deployment forms part of the government's ongoing response to communities in southern Mindanao, which has experienced a series of seismic events following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the region on June 8.
The PCSO said the dispatch of additional food packs was carried out in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive for the swift delivery of assistance to communities affected by the earthquakes in Mindanao. The agency added that it remains ready to provide further assistance as needs on the ground are assessed by concerned authorities and local government units.
