Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has initiated the deployment of two multi-role response vessels (MRRVs) to assist passengers stranded at the Port of Lucena, Quezon. This measure aims to facilitate the transportation of individuals unable to secure commercial transport.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PCG, in collaboration with the Department of Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez, deployed the BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) to transport 75 passengers from Lucena, Quezon, to San Agustin, Romblon. The transport operation commenced at approximately 6 a.m., ensuring that affected travelers could reach their destinations.
Additionally, BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) was stationed on standby at the port to accommodate any further sea travelers requiring assistance. The deployment of these vessels is part of the "Bagong Pilipinas" initiative, which emphasizes responsive and people-centered service aimed at ensuring no Filipino is left behind.
PCG District Southern Tagalog head, Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, highlighted that the operation adheres strictly to maritime safety and security protocols. He emphasized the PCG's dual role as both a maritime safety agency and a humanitarian force, underscoring their dedication to compassion, unity, and service during critical times. Tuvilla noted that such initiatives are particularly significant in making the Christmas season meaningful for families across island communities.
