PCG and BJMP Collaborate on Mangrove Planting Initiative in Taytay

Taytay: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Taytay Sub-Station and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Taytay District Jail participated in a mangrove planting activity in Sitio Minara, Barangay New Guinlo, Taytay, Palawan.

According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative took place on February 25 as part of the Intensified Community Awareness and Response Enforcement (iCARE) program. This program aims to enhance collaboration between government agencies and local communities to protect coastal and marine resources.

A total of 70 mangrove propagules were planted along the shoreline to support coastal rehabilitation efforts and help mitigate erosion and the impacts of climate change. The activity also aimed to raise public awareness about the critical role of mangroves in sustaining marine biodiversity and serving as natural barriers against storm surges.

Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and various civic-society groups also participated, reflecting a broad-based partnership in advancing environmental protection initiatives in the municipality. BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo stated that the bureau's involvement underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, beyond its custodial functions.

The PCG emphasized that coastal protection efforts are part of its broader mandate to safeguard the marine environment and promote maritime safety, in collaboration with stakeholders. Organizers highlighted that the joint undertaking underscores the shared responsibility of government agencies and residents in preserving Palawan's coastal ecosystems while strengthening community engagement in environmental conservation efforts.
