PBBM to Promote Women’s Rights, Peace at UN Events

New york: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. would emphasize the Philippines' commitment to advancing women's rights during the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, United States (US), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, DFA spokesperson Assistant Secretary Angelica Escalona stated that President Marcos is expected to deliver his address during the event. Escalona emphasized that Marcos would highlight the country's efforts to promote and protect the rights and welfare of women and girls. She said, 'Magsasalita po ang Pangulo sa (The President will speak at the) 70th Session ng (of the) Commission on the Status of Women o (or) CSW 70,' and reaffirmed, 'He will also highlight here the Philippines' commitment to promote, advance and protect the rights and well-being of women and girls.'

Marcos is scheduled to embark on a working visit to the US from March 8 to 11. He will be accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, alongside other Philippine officials, including DFA Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr., and Presidential Communications Office acting Secretary Dave Gomez.

The CSW is a UN commission that serves as a principal global intergovernmental body dedicated to promoting gender equality, women's rights, and women's empowerment. CSW 70 will focus on strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, and addressing structural barriers.
