According to Philippines News Agency, this statement came as Marcos hosted the traditional Vin d'honneur for members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and other invited guests at Malaca±an Palace in Manila. As the country welcomed 2026, Marcos extended warm greetings and appreciation to the diplomatic representatives and emphasized the importance of reaffirming shared commitments and renewing a sense of purpose.
Marcos highlighted the strength of the country's bilateral partnerships and the shared commitment with the international community to uphold a rules-based international order. He stressed the need for maintaining this order to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development.
Over the past three and a half years, the Philippines has been actively engaging with the global community to promote peace, strengthen cooperation, and uphold international law. Marcos acknowledged the significant progress made in forging meaningful partnerships since he assumed the presidency in 2022, despite global challenges such as economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions.
The President expressed the Philippines' intention to work with new partners in areas like trade, investment, sustainable development, and cultural exchanges. As the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for the year, Marcos committed to enhancing dialogue and cooperation on regional security and economic integration.
Looking beyond the region, Marcos confirmed the Philippines' campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term. He assured that the Philippines would be a principled and constructive voice, advocating for the rule of law and conflict prevention.
Marcos emphasized the country's dedication to multilateralism, international peace, human rights, and the rule of law. Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown praised the President's efforts to fight corruption and expressed optimism about the Philippines' ASEAN chairship enhancing regional competitiveness.
