Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced a temporary four-day work week for certain government offices within the executive branch, effective March 9. This directive is part of a broader strategy to mitigate the impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on the nation.
According to Philippines News Agency, this measure excludes government agencies that deliver emergency or essential services, such as police, firefighters, and offices offering frontline public services. The President also imposed restrictions on non-essential government travel and activities, such as study tours and team-building events, suggesting such meetings be held online instead.
In an effort to conserve resources, President Marcos urged all government entities to reduce electricity and petroleum usage by 10 to 20 percent. Additionally, he directed relevant agencies, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Migrant Workers, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, to maintain coordination to support Filipinos currently residing in Gulf countries.
The President highlighted that efforts to evacuate Filipinos seeking repatriation have already commenced. He assured that once travel conditions are deemed safe, all individuals wishing to return home will be evacuated promptly.
