PBBM Instructs DFA and DMW to Safeguard Filipinos Amid Airstrikes in Iran

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has issued directives to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to ensure the safety of Filipinos in the Gulf region following recent airstrikes by the United States and Israel targeting Iran.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos made the announcement through a post on X, indicating that the Philippine government is in the process of gathering more information regarding the attacks. He emphasized the need for the concerned agencies to activate contingency plans and implement measures to protect Filipinos in the affected areas.

Marcos highlighted the importance of the safety of Filipino citizens in the region, instructing the DFA and DMW to ascertain their whereabouts and take immediate safety measures. In response, the DFA expressed concern over the increased tensions in the Middle East and urged all parties to engage in dialogue and negotiations to restore peace and stability.

DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro confirmed to President Marcos that the Philippine Embassies in Tehran and Tel Aviv are fully alert and prepared to support affected Filipinos. Additionally, embassies in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, where many Filipinos reside, are also on high alert.

According to DFA reports, no Filipinos have been reported affected or harmed by the aerial attacks. The DFA reassured that the President remains deeply concerned for the safety of Filipinos across the region. Filipinos are advised to stay indoors or in safe locations and avoid public areas during this period of unrest.

Reports indicate that the US and Israel executed multiple coordinated strikes across Iran, with explosions reported in central Tehran and other areas. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported that Iran targeted a US military base in Bahrain, with two missiles intercepted over Qatar and explosions heard in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
