Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday mourned the passing of his aide-de-camp, Major Ma. Joshua Santiago, and paid tribute to his dedication to service.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a Facebook post, Marcos extended his sympathies and condolences to Santiago's family and fellow soldiers. Marcos said Santiago would be remembered as 'a brave soldier who fought for our country with dedication and honor.'

'In the time he stood by my side as my Aide-de-Camp, I came to know a soldier of courage, an officer I could depend on and, above all, a good man,' he said. 'Our prayers are with his family and fellow soldiers. Fair winds and following seas, Jam. It was my privilege to have you by my side,' Marcos added.

An aide-de-camp is a commissioned officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in active service who is selected to provide general assistance to government officials and foreign military or civilian dignitaries. The position involves assisting the official to whom the officer is assigned in various official engagements and activities.

Santiago died at the age of 39 on Monday, as per his wife's Facebook post, but the cause of death was not mentioned.
