PBBM: Gov’t, Private Sector Collaboration Key to Reliable Power Supply

Pasig city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration with the private sector to attain the government's goal of providing Filipinos with 'accessible, affordable, and reliable' power supply. Marcos toured the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) exhibit at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City, held in response to the President's directives to deliver immediate solutions to the energy crisis.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos acknowledged Meralco's crucial role in advancing the government's national energy agenda and hailed its continued support for his administration's efforts to overhaul the Philippine power industry. The President expressed satisfaction over the simplified and faster processes to ensure a stable and reliable power supply, encouraging Filipinos, especially those from remote areas, to take full advantage of the initiatives.

In partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Meralco hosted the event to highlight its close collaboration with key government agencies. The exhibit showcased Meralco's initiatives for social protection, renewable energy adoption, and universal access to electricity, including the electrification of low-income households and geographically isolated areas using solar-powered solutions.

The event also featured technological innovations such as KLoad's prepaid household setup and the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for remote reading and analytics. Additionally, Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGEN) presented its 'Powering Better Tomorrow' portfolio, while MTerra Solar highlighted its successful grid synchronization, signaling readiness for connection to the Luzon grid.

The Marcos administration aims to close the country's power gap by 2028 through closer cooperation with the private sector, reinforcing the shared responsibility in progress within the energy sector and nation-building.
