PBBM: Gov’t on Alert, Monitoring Situation Amid ‘Nando’

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday assured the public that government agencies are on full alert and closely monitoring the situation in areas affected by Super Typhoon Nando (international name: Ragasa). ‘Nakatanggap tayo ng mga ulat mula sa iba’t ibang probinsya ukol sa Bagyong Nando. Malalakas ang hangin na nararanasan, ngunit sa ngayon ay hindi pa malakas ang ulan (We have received reports from various provinces regarding Super Typhoon Nando. Strong winds are being experienced, but so far there has been no heavy rain),’ Marcos said in a statement. He added that preemptive evacuations have already been conducted, and the needs of evacuees are being attended to.

According to Philippines News Agency, preemptive evacuations have been conducted and the government is immediately addressing the needs of those in evacuation centers. Marcos emphasized the government’s readiness to provide assistance, stating, ‘Mahigpit nating mino-monitor ang sitwasyon, at naka-alerto ang lahat ng ahensya ng pamahalaan upang makapagbigay ng tulong saanman at kailanman kailanganin (We are closely monitoring the situation, and all government agencies are on alert to provide assistance wherever and whenever needed).’

Nando maintained its strength and may pass close or make landfall over Babuyan Islands on Monday noon or afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 has been hoisted in some areas, including the northern portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan, Didicas, Panuitan, Calayan).

The Palace has suspended government work and classes at all levels in Metro Manila and several other areas due to the threat of the powerful cyclone.
