Kuala lumpur: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday addressed public concerns regarding the ongoing investigation into questionable flood control projects, emphasizing the necessity of gathering ‘solid’ evidence to hold perpetrators accountable.
According to Philippines News Agency, the President, speaking during a media interview, highlighted the transition from political to legal proceedings, which require strict adherence to legal standards. Marcos stressed that although there is a public demand for accountability in the flood control controversy, rushing the investigation without proper evidence could have detrimental outcomes.
Marcos warned of the consequences if those who have allegedly embezzled billions are not prosecuted effectively due to mishandling of evidence. He underscored the importance of due process to ensure that those responsible face justice and that stolen funds are returned to the government and the people.
The President reassured Filipinos of his commitment to ensuring justice and holding those involved in the alleged irregularities accountable. He acknowledged the slow pace of legal proceedings but expressed confidence in their effectiveness. Marcos posed the choice between a quick resolution and a thorough, accurate one, emphasizing the need for a well-handled investigation.
Furthermore, Marcos announced that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is in the final stages of setting up a livestream for its investigation into the flood control anomalies, aiming to maintain transparency in the process.
