PBBM Congratulates Japan PM Takaichi, Seeks Stronger PH-Japan Ties

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her decisive electoral win. Marcos expressed optimism that the Philippines would continue to maintain strong ties with Japan under her leadership.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos described Takaichi's victory in a Facebook post as a 'landslide win' and a 'powerful mandate from the Japanese people.' He extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Takaichi on her historic victory, which followed the success of her Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in a snap election on February 8, solidifying her position as Japan's new leader.

Marcos noted that Japan has been a close friend and trusted partner of the Philippines, emphasizing the importance of Japan's leadership in regional affairs. He highlighted that Japan plays a crucial role in the region and is an important partner for the Philippines.

As the current Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) chair, the Philippines is seeking closer cooperation with Japan. Marcos expects the election result to further strengthen bilateral engagement, expressing eagerness to work closely with the Japanese government to enhance partnership and advance stability, cooperation, and shared growth across the Indo-Pacific region.
