Manila: Malaca±ang announced on Monday that it is closely monitoring reports of potential foreign interference in the Philippine public discourse, specifically concerning alleged Chinese propaganda infiltrating local media. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed these concerns, which have been highlighted by the non-profit organization SeaLight. The group claims that the Chinese Embassy is allegedly guiding Chinese-language media in the Philippines to promote Beijing's narrative.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized the longstanding reports of foreign interference in Philippine politics, asserting the government's commitment to freedom of expression and speech while condemning any form of disinformation or fake news. She stated that the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) is collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) to investigate any unlawful or manipulative activities.
Castro urged the public to be critical of the information they consume, stressing the importance of transparency and truth. She encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and united in protecting national interests over those of foreign countries.
