Manila: Malaca±ang has highlighted ongoing efforts by the Department of Education (DepEd) to address irregularities left by former Vice President Sara Duterte during her tenure as the agency's chief.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro responded to criticisms made by Duterte about the current administration's governance, suggesting that her remarks reflect lapses during her time in office. Castro commented during a Palace press briefing, "Let us look who's talking," in response to the Vice President's remarks.
Castro further elaborated, pointing out cases of unresolved issues such as "ghost students, ghost vouchers, ghost food packs, ghost laptops, ghost school materials" attributed to Duterte's leadership. These issues, she noted, are now being addressed under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara.
The Palace official made it clear that the administration will uphold due process in the upcoming impeachment proceedings against Duterte, scheduled for March 2 to 4. "Dapat proseso, due process at kung ano ang inilalahad ng ebidensiya (Due process and evidence will prevail)," Castro emphasized, underscoring the government's commitment to fairness while maintaining accountability.
