Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remains in good health and continues to attend multiple meetings despite impeachment proceedings moving forward in the House of Representatives, Malaca±ang has said. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the President is 'doing well' and remains focused on his official duties.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro reassured the public about the President's health, emphasizing his ongoing commitment to his responsibilities. 'Iyong kalusugan po niya. mabuti po siya at tuluy-tuloy ang kaniyang meeting (His health is good and his meetings are ongoing),' Castro noted, highlighting that Marcos was scheduled to attend five meetings on Tuesday.
Previously, Malaca±ang disclosed that Marcos was diagnosed with diverticulitis, a non-life-threatening inflammation of pouches in the colon, which led to a brief hospital stay on January 21. On medical advice, the President had skipped several public engagements outside Malaca±ang but continued his work, managing paperwork and attending meetings.
Addressing the impeachment complaint against the President, Castro mentioned that the topic was briefly discussed with Marcos, who expressed his respect for constitutional processes. 'Ang sabi lang niya ay nandiyan ang proseso at kung anong proseso, igagalang niya (He said that there is a process, and whatever that process is, he will respect it),' she said.
Additionally, Castro clarified that the President's legal team has not yet begun preparations, as the Palace is awaiting further developments in Congress. 'Aalamin na lang natin kung anong mangyayari sa proseso (We will just see what happens in the process),' she explained.
The House Committee on Justice is expected to vote on the substance of the impeachment complaints against Marcos, following its earlier decision that the complaint was sufficient in form.
