Sta. rosa: A big field of young players will see action this weekend in the Mayor's Cup Age-Group Championships at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna. Leading the girls U14 division is Ella Marie Paglalunan, who is expecting a tough challenge from Leanne Barrido, Sarah Bermas, Lilith Rufino, Jaynelle Castro, Xyril Solis, and Anica Palacio.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro will headline the U12 category where she will be up against a rising crop of talent, including Mira Plaza, Margaret Abacan, Misty Principe, Lexa Asistio, Brielle Loyola, Julia Bermejo, and Blaire Rada. Paglalunan, Barrido, Rufino, and Solis will also compete in the U16 category featuring Vania Parawan, Michaela Suarez, Claire Alcala, and Jana Bermejo.
The U18 roster includes Claire Casilier, Cristina Reyes, Agatha Asistio, Jared Carbonero, Ashley Garcia, Sofia Demadara, Bermejo, and Parawan. To accommodate the large number of entries from the National Capital Region-Luzon region, organizers split the tournament. Competition in the boy's division will be held on June 19-22.
The event is a vital leg of the year-long nationwide circuit which remains a cornerstone of youth sports development in the country.
