PAGCOR and NPC Sign Agreement to Boost Data Privacy in Gaming Industry

Manila: The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) and the National Privacy Commission (NPC) have signed an agreement to enhance data privacy protection and ensure regulatory compliance within the gaming sector.

According to Philippines News Agency, the agreement, signed on October 20, aims to address data privacy challenges, improve stakeholder collaboration, and foster a secure and trusted gaming environment. PAGCOR and NPC plan to implement joint programs focused on privacy awareness, capacity building, and policy development to reinforce privacy governance in the gaming industry.

PAGCOR chairperson and CEO Alejandro Tengco emphasized that the partnership highlights the state gaming firm’s dedication to protecting the personal data of employees, licensees, and gaming patrons. He stated, “This MOU with the NPC is a vital step in aligning PAGCOR’s policies and processes with the evolving data privacy landscape. It reinforces our duty to protect personal information while ensuring that our operations remain transparent, compliant, and trustworthy.”

Tengco also noted that the partnership would facilitate the creation of a database of government officials and employees who are barred from gambling in casinos and other gaming establishments across the nation.

Meanwhile, NPC Privacy Commissioner and Chairperson John Henry Naga stated that cooperation between regulatory agencies is essential for safeguarding personal data, particularly in sectors managing large volumes of sensitive information. “The formalization of this collaboration between NPC and PAGCOR underscores the security of our citizens’ personal data, which is not just a regulatory requirement but a hallmark of excellence in the gaming industry,” Naga said.
