PAF: Increased Fighter Jet Sightings Due to Cope Thunder Drills

Pampanga: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Monday reminded the public not to be alarmed by an increase in sightings of fighter jets flying from Basa and Clark Air Bases in Pampanga, noting that this is part of the ongoing Cope Thunder Exercise 2026 with its American counterparts. "In line with Exercise Cope Thunder 2026, residents in the vicinity of Basa Air Base, Clark Air Base, and surrounding communities are advised of increased jet flying operations in the coming days," the PAF's 5th Fighter Wing said in a social media post.

According to Philippines News Agency, this year's iteration of Cope Thunder will run from April 6 to 17. The PAF has not yet released details regarding numbers of participating aircraft and personnel for this exercise. The 5th Fighter Wing also said all jet flying activities are part of "coordinated joint training exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability, readiness, and operational capability."

It also informed that residents may experience elevated aircraft noise levels as participating air assets conduct scheduled operations. "These are routine and planned training activities. No cause for alarm. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and understanding as we train to defend and serve our nation," it added.
