Iloilo city: Over 7,600 residents of two housing projects in Barangay San Isidro Jaro in this highly urbanized city stand to benefit from the PHP4.2-million pipeline project that broke ground on Monday. The service expansion project of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) will install 500 linear meters of new pipeline that will directly accommodate the Uswag Residential Complex of the Iloilo City government and the relocation site of the National Housing Authority, with a combined total of 1,917 housing units. It is targeted for completion in September this year, in time for residents to begin occupying the housing units.
According to Philippines News Agency, Metro Pacific Water (MPW) president and chief executive officer Andrew Pangilinan emphasized the objective of the project is to ensure these communities have access to reliable water service as they move into their new homes. He noted that while the project may appear modest, its impact will be significant by strengthening the infrastructure to serve the growing community and reflecting a shared commitment to responsible planning and sustainable development. Pangilinan also mentioned that over the next two years, MPW, MPIW, and Metro Iloilo Bulk Water will collectively invest more than PHP12 billion in water infrastructure across Iloilo to expand service coverage, improve reliability, reduce water losses, and strengthen long-term water security for the people of Iloilo.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Iloilo City Mayor Tre±as, Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace Baronda, and other local and barangay officials, as well as MPIW chief operating officer Angelo David Berba. Mayor Tre±as highlighted that the event marks another step towards an inclusive, more livable, and resilient city. For the residents of the Uswag 4PH Condominium Complex and the Uswag Residential Complex by the National Housing Authority, this project represents greater access to a reliable water supply and assurance that essential services continue to reach every community within the city.
