Antique: A PHP2.4 billion fund has been allocated for the construction of 811 classrooms in Antique. Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique Engineer III Rex Galero confirmed that this allocation was included in the 2026 General Appropriations Act.
According to Philippines News Agency, the classrooms will be constructed in 274 schools across the province. Galero noted that each classroom has an allocation of PHP3 million, as determined by the program of work prepared by the Department of Public Works and Highways. The priority for these constructions is given to 274 of the 538 public schools in Antique, aiming to address classroom shortages and replace old and dilapidated structures.
Galero mentioned the ongoing efforts to secure additional classrooms for other schools in need. He highlighted the importance of coordination with local government units and private individuals for lot donations or acquisitions, given that there is a need to construct a total of 1,800 classrooms, but space constraints exist in some schools.
Galero expressed optimism that with sufficient funding from the national government, the classroom shortage in the province could be resolved based on their five-year plan. He also extended gratitude to Senator Loren Legarda and Antique Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda for their efforts in securing the PHP2.4 billion funding.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has initiated procurement for the projects, which are expected to begin implementation next month.
