Manila: The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released around PHP16.5 billion to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) upon the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to accelerate infrastructure spending and sustain economic growth. The amount, issued through a Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) to the DPWH Central Office, will be downloaded by implementing units across 17 regions nationwide, to settle due and demandable accounts payable, the DBM said Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the release aims to ensure the timely payment of completed and ongoing infrastructure projects, prevent delays, and support uninterrupted public service delivery. DBM acting Secretary Rolando Toledo stated that the move is part of the administration's strategy to keep infrastructure projects on track while stimulating economic activity. He emphasized that timely disbursement of funds, particularly for infrastructure, has a strong multiplier effect on the economy, citing its critical role in driving growth in the country.
Toledo noted that government spending in infrastructure supports jobs, strengthens businesses, and accelerates project completion, creating immediate and tangible benefits. The release underwent strict validation to ensure compliance with budgeting, accounting, and auditing rules. He assured that while the government is expediting funds, it continues to uphold transparency and accountability by ensuring that all disbursements are backed by complete documentation and aligned with existing laws.
Toledo further mentioned that the President's directive aims to keep projects moving and the economy growing, ensuring that obligations are paid on time so that work and public service continue uninterrupted. The DBM reaffirmed its commitment to efficient and responsible budget execution to translate government spending into tangible benefits for Filipinos.
