Manila: A Filipino passenger arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, was apprehended at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Thursday after authorities discovered suspected marijuana concealed in his checked-in baggage.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported that the illegal substance, locally known as 'kush,' weighed 8.91 kilograms and had an estimated street value of PHP13.365 million. The suspected marijuana was detected during routine X-ray screening of the passenger's luggage.
The BOC, in a news release, stated that the presence of illegal drugs was subsequently confirmed after a positive alert from a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 unit. The seized items were turned over to the appropriate authorities for further examination and investigation.
The BOC has yet to release the identity of the passenger and has not announced the charges to be filed against the suspect.
