P1.57-B Antique Airport Dev’t to Boost Tourism, Economy

Antique: Antique Governor Paolo Everardo Javier and other political leaders in the province are optimistic that the PHP1.576 billion Evelio B. Javier Antique Airport Development Projects inaugurated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in this capital town on Monday will boost local tourism and the economy.

According to Philippines News Agency, Javier expressed pride in the newly developed airport, which features a new passenger terminal building and the capacity to accommodate four jet aircraft simultaneously. He highlighted that families and tourists from Manila could now easily visit the province, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination.

The development is anticipated to attract more visitors due to the convenience offered, which in turn is expected to stimulate the local economy through increased spending on food, accommodation, and other necessities. Board Member Vincent Piccio pointed out the allure of Antique's natural attractions, such as the white sand Mararison beach in Culasi, which could draw interest from visitors.

Board Member Dante Beriong added that the improved airport infrastructure could also attract more investors to the province due to enhanced accessibility. He emphasized that the development puts Antique on par with other regions in the country and enhances its connectivity on a global scale.

Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated in a separate interview that Philippine Airlines will continue its tri-weekly flights to Antique. Efforts are underway to coordinate with other airlines to expand the airport's connectivity, with the airport's runway now extended to 1,800 meters to accommodate jet aircraft.

The airport now features an expanded Passenger Terminal Building with a capacity for 360 passengers, improved from the previous 64. Additional upgrades include an upgraded Administrative Building, a new airport apron and taxiway, and the construction of an air traffic control tower.
