Iloilo city: The Commission on Elections in Iloilo City successfully processed 1,523 voter registration applications during the final day of registration on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Election Assistant II Jonathan Sayno expressed that the process was smooth due to prior anticipation of the last-day surge, based on previous registration experiences. "Our registration lasted for seven months since we started in October last year. But they said it is only now they found the time," Sayno noted, highlighting the procrastination of applicants.
A significant portion, nearly 60 percent, of the new registrants belong to the youth sector. To facilitate the process and ensure accessibility, the commission extended its services to barangays, schools, and malls. "We established 73 satellite venues, including malls, public high schools, and barangay gyms. We spent 106 days in our satellite office," Sayno added.
On the final day, the registration process began at 8 a.m. at Robinsons Place Iloilo and concluded at 7:35 p.m. The applications received on Monday, along with those submitted since April 1, will undergo deliberation by the Election Registration Board on June 1.
Since October 2025, the commission has registered approximately 27,000 applications, though only 10,357 remain for deliberation. Sayno disclosed, "As of March 31, we have 306,367 registered voters based on their sanitized list. We have deactivated more or less 20,000."
Following the deliberation, the final list of voters will be released, and the number of precincts required for the elections will be determined. The filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections is scheduled for Sept. 28 to Oct 6, with the elections set for Nov. 2.
