Over 1,000 Police Personnel Deployed for Holy Week and Summer Security in Negros and Siquijor

Bacolod city: The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of both residents and visitors during the Holy Week and the upcoming summer travel season. More than 1,000 security personnel have been strategically deployed across high-priority areas in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor as part of the Ligtas Summer Vacation (SUMVAC) operations, which run from March 29 to May 31.

According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-NIR Director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay emphasized the commitment of the region's police force to maintaining peace and order, safeguarding lives and properties, and fostering an environment where people can enjoy a secure and orderly summer. "Ensuring the safety and security of our communities and visitors is our foremost priority," he stated.

The security operations are supplemented by personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, and other uniformed services. Additionally, community police advocacy groups are actively supporting these efforts.

Ibay further elaborated that PRO-NIR personnel have been assigned to safeguard places of worship, major roads, transportation hubs and terminals, commercial centers, public convergence points, and key tourist destinations. This coordinated, multi-agency approach highlights PRO-NIR's dedication to maintaining a visible presence, offering rapid response capabilities, and conducting proactive law enforcement during times of increased public activity.

The Ligtas SUMVAC 2026 initiative not only targets crime prevention and the maintenance of public order but also focuses on providing immediate assistance during emergencies, managing crowds effectively, and raising public awareness about safety protocols.
