Iloilo: Two taxi drivers tested positive for illegal drugs during the second day of the 'Oplan Harabas' surprise drug tests for drivers and conductors conducted in six public transport terminals in Iloilo and Guimaras on Tuesday. Oplan Harabas was launched by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Western Visayas (PDEA-6) to ensure safe and drug-free travel during the Holy Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the second round, 607 transport personnel, including 570 drivers, 33 conductors, one dispatcher, and three traffic enforcers, submitted their urine specimen. The surprise drug tests were enforced at various locations, including the Iloilo International Airport, Robinsons Pavia Terminal, and Ungka 2 in Pavia in Iloilo province; old Tagbak Terminal and at the Ceres Terminal in Iloilo City; and at the Jordan and Buenavista ports in Guimaras.
The taxi drivers, who tested positive, were screened at the Iloilo International Airport and the old Tagbak terminal. "They still have to undergo confirmatory testing," PDEA-6 Regional Director Ralph Rommel Torres stated in a media interview. PDEA-6 Information Officer Graciela Tanaleon mentioned that Oplan Harabas is part of the effort to reduce drug demand and enhance road safety.
A jeepney driver and five tricycle drivers had tested positive during the first round of surprise drug testing.
