Iligan city: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has announced that its units, in collaboration with various partner agencies, have undertaken a series of rapid damage assessment and needs analysis (RDANA) missions to evaluate the impact of Tropical Storm Basyang, also internationally known as Penha, in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.
According to Philippines News Agency, the RDANA missions were conducted from February 7 to 10, involving two multi-agency teams. These teams consisted of personnel from the OCD, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev), Department of Health (DOH), City Health Office (CHO) Iligan, Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and Department of Trade and Industries (DTI), along with local government units. They conducted field validation across the affected barangays.
Additionally, RDANA augmentation teams from Bacolod, Kapatagan, Maigo, Sapad, and Sultan Naga Dimaporo contributed to ground assessment and data validation efforts. Initial findings indicate that 16,335 families, or 66,494 individuals, were affected, with 1,818 houses damaged-427 of which were totally destroyed and 1,391 partially damaged.
The storm displaced approximately 750 families, amounting to 2,934 individuals. The incident resulted in five reported deaths and 157 injured persons, alongside substantial damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and critical lifelines. Field assessments identified urgent needs for food assistance, hygiene and sleeping kits, safe drinking water and containers, shelter repair materials, restoration of electricity and water supply, and additional operational equipment for local responders.
The findings from the RDANA missions will inform relief efforts, resource mobilization, and the development of Iligan City's rehabilitation and recovery plan.
