Manila: National University-Nazareth School began their title defense with a decisive 25-16, 25-14 win against King's Montessori School in the Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup Division 1. The match took place at the La Salle Green Hills Gym.
According to Philippines News Agency, Alas Pilipinas Girls standout Xyz Rayco contributed 10 points, including six aces and four attacks, helping the Lady Bullpups secure the victory in just 46 minutes. Teammates Jaila Adrao added nine points, Jhaynna Bulandres contributed eight, and Raine Alonzo chipped in seven points. King's Montessori was led by Kriska Gendap with six points and Sharina Lleses who added five.
In other matches, the University of Santo Tomas narrowly defeated De La Salle-Zobel, 24-26, 25-20, 15-19, in Pool D. Nicole Pelaez led the Junior Tigresses with 10 points, while Ryzel Laag and Eliz Mechavez each added eight points. For De La Salle-Zobel, Jeleanne Laborte scored 10 points, with Alyanna Valdez and Kylie Celada each contributing eight points.
Further victories in Division 1 included Immaculada Conception College's win over Canossa Academy, 25-12, 26-24, in Pool B, and St. John's Institute's triumph over De La Salle-Lipa, 26-24, 25-13, in Pool C.
In Division 2, defending champions Domuschola International School dominated The Beacon Academy with a 25-8, 25-8 victory, while San Beda University outplayed MGC-New Life Christian Academy, 25-23, 25-19, in Pool E.
UST-B overcame La Salle Green Hills, 25-23, 25-13, and Poveda defeated Everest International School, last year's Division 2 runner-up, 25-21, 25-16, in Pool F.
Pool G saw Assumption Antipolo defeat Pace Academy, 25-18, 25-15, and National University-Nazareth School B overpower CCF-The Life Academy, 25-7, 25-9. In Pool H, De La Salle Zobel-B triumphed over St. Paul College-Pasig, 25-16, 25-19, and University of Batangas bested Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 25-12, 25-19.
