NPC Recognizes Top Privacy Pioneers in PAW Awards 2026

The national privacy commission (npc): on Wednesday revealed the winners of the National Data Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) Awards 2026.

According to Philippines News Agency, the ceremony recognized 'exemplary organizations and individuals who demonstrated excellence in privacy protection and data governance.' The PAW Awards 2026 carried the subtheme '10 for 10,' recognizing 10 outstanding organizations and individuals for their contributions to privacy and data protection.

Mynt, Inc. - the owner of mobile wallet service GCash - received four awards, including Privacy Innovation Award, Privacy Initiative of the Year, and Privacy Management Program of the Year. Its data protection officer (DPO), Robert Real Jr., was also named the DPO of the Year.

On the other hand, broadband service provider Converge ICT Solutions was awarded the Kabataang Digital Award, while the City Government of Muntinlupa was cited with the Public Sector Excellence Award. Meanwhile, the Credit Information Corporation received the Outstanding Technology Implementation for Data Protection Award.

Lawyer Kristine Tendencia-Bartolome from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) was recognized as the Privacy Advocate of the Year. In addition, the NPC Seal of Registration Compliance Excellence Award was presented to SM Retail, Inc. in the private sector and to the PSA in the public sector.

The PAW Awards 2026, with the theme 'ANAMNESIS: Looking Back and Moving Forward,' was held during the two-day PAW celebration in Manila on May 27 to 28, 2026. In his keynote message, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda highlighted the shared responsibility of protecting data privacy in an increasingly digital society.

'Privacy is no longer just a legal requirement. Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical concern. These are now shared national responsibilities. This is why we must ensure that we regulate AI while enabling innovation. We cannot slow down progress, but we must guide it,' Aguda said.
