Sorsogon: A New People's Army rebel was killed in a clash with government troops in Sorsogon province on Tuesday, the 9th Infantry Division reported Wednesday. Troops from the 31st Infantry Battalion responded to community reports of armed rebels in the boundary of Barangay Banban in Donsol and Barangay Catamlangan in Pilar.

According to Philippines News Agency, upon approaching the area, soldiers encountered about seven NPA members and returned fire. The military stated that the firefight lasted 15 minutes. One unidentified rebel died and was left at the scene as the others fled.

Troops recovered two high-powered firearms and tightened security operations in the area. Maj. Gen. Aldwine Almase, 9ID commander, urged the public to report suspicious individuals to authorities to ensure community safety.
