Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said there will be no extension for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for those vying for district representatives in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia emphasized that aspirants should file within the designated May 5 to 7 period. Garcia communicated to reporters via a Viber message, stressing that any extension would interfere with the scheduled preparations for the BARMM Parliamentary Elections (BPE).
Garcia highlighted that even minor delays could impact crucial election-related activities leading up to the election date on September 14. He advised candidates to avoid last-minute filings, stating, "The earlier [to file COC] the better. Avoid the rush."
On the initial day of filing, the Bangsamoro Electoral Office recorded 22 candidates who submitted their COCs. In the upcoming BPE, voters will elect 32 district representatives to the BARMM Parliament.
