Albay: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has extended humanitarian assistance to families displaced by the continuing unrest of Mayon Volcano in Albay province. In a phone interview on Thursday, NGCP government relations and regional affairs lead specialist Joyce Balancio stated that the company distributed 250 family packs containing non-food relief items such as hygiene kits, blankets, and handwoven mats to evacuees in Camalig town and Tabaco City.
According to Philippines News Agency, the NGCP team handed over 125 packs on January 23 to identified residents of Barangay Anoling in Camalig who were transferred to the covered court of Barangay Tagaytay. In Tabaco City, evacuees from Barangays Oson, Buhian, and Buang, who were staying in evacuation centers and a covered court, also received 125 family sets. The beneficiaries were identified in coordination with local officials and social welfare offices. Balancio mentioned that the initiative is part of NGCP's corporate social responsibility efforts to assist communities during emergencies.
Meanwhile, NGCP announced a scheduled 12-hour power interruption on January 31 to allow maintenance works on key transmission facilities, affecting several towns in Albay. This was confirmed by Albay Electric Cooperative. The scheduled outage will be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will affect the Ligao and Polangui substations, resulting in power interruptions in the towns of Polangui, Oas, Libon, Guinobatan, Pio Duran, and Jovellar, as well as Ligao City and parts of Camalig in Albay. Aleco reminded the public to exercise caution, as all power lines will remain energized during the outage.
