Dinagat islands: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) submitted by the provincial government of Dinagat Islands. Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. personally received the approval documents and the notice of compliance from LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo "Vigor" Mendoza II on Monday, April 20. The provincial government originally submitted the plan on Dec. 2, 2025.
According to Philippines News Agency, these new routes are anticipated to significantly boost economic activities in the province, particularly benefiting the agriculture, fishery, and tourism sectors. Governor Demerey highlighted the potential for increased access to major tourist destinations, including the province's pristine beaches, as a result of the new transport routes.
The approved routes and their corresponding transport requirements include the San Jose - Cagdianao route, which spans 20.69 kilometers and requires nine PUJ Class 1 units; the San Jose - Basilisa route, covering 42.36 kilometers with a need for nine PUJ Class 1 units; and the Libjo - Tubajon - Loreto route, which is 29.56 kilometers long and requires seven PUJ Class 1 units.
The LTFRB has instructed the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Dinagat Islands to pass an ordinance officially adopting the plan. The approved LPTRP is valid for five years and will be updated as the province's transport needs evolve.
