San fernando: The leadership transition at Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3) on Tuesday signaled renewed emphasis on operational discipline, accountability, and sustained anti-crime efforts across the region. Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez formally assumed the post of PRO-3 Director during a turnover-of-command ceremony led by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mendez succeeded Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Pe±ones Jr., who has been designated as acting director of the PNP Directorate for Operations. In his speech, Mendez stated that under his leadership, the PRO-3 will align regional priorities with the broader PNP Focused Agenda. He emphasized that actions will be based on integrity, transparency, courage, and accountability, ensuring law enforcement is firm yet judicious and always within the bounds of the law.
Prior to his new designation, Mendez served as senior executive assistant to the PNP chief, where he was directly involved in strategic planning and operational oversight at the national level. He also previously led the Regional Intelligence Division of the National Capital Region Police Office. His earlier stint as acting provincial director of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office has also given him operational familiarity with Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, Pe±ones' new role at the PNP Directorate for Operations places him in charge of nationwide operational policies and strategies.
