Dumaguete: The province of Negros Oriental posted negative inflation rates for the second quarter this year, a report from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) here showed. A quarterly report obtained Tuesday by the Philippine News Agency from the PSA-Negros Oriental showed the province’s inflation rates at -0.1 percent in April; -0.2 percent in May; and -1.0 percent in June.
According to Philippines News Agency, as of the period covered, the PSA-Negros Oriental said the average inflation rate from June 2024 to June 2025 is at -0.1 percent. The main drivers to the April 2025 inflation rate of Negros Oriental are housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, with -0.2 percent inflation and 56 percent share; food and non-alcoholic beverages, with -0.2 percent inflation and 36.7 percent share; and health, with 0.9 percent inflation and 2.8 percent share.
For May 2025, the main drivers of the overall inflation were housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, with -0.6 percent inflation and 55.8 percent share; transport, with -4.1 percent inflation and 42.5 percent share; and health, with 0.8 percent inflation and 1.6 percent share.
In June 2025, the main drivers were housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, with -3.2 percent inflation and 68 percent share; and food and non-alcoholic beverages, with -0.9 percent inflation and 32 percent share.
Provincial inflation rates for the bottom 30 percent income households during the period covered were April, -0.7 percent; May, -0.9 percent; and June, -1.1 percent. The main drivers for the April 2025 inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households were food and non-alcoholic beverages, with -1.0 percent inflation and 87.4 percent share; health, with 2.9 percent inflation and 7.1 percent share; and clothing and footwear, with 0.8 percent inflation and 3.3 percent share.
For May, the main drivers were food and non-alcoholic beverages, with -1.5 percent inflation and 87.9 percent share; and transport, with -3.4 percent inflation and 12.1 percent share. Food and non-alcoholic beverages were the main driver in the June 2025 inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households, with -2.2 percent inflation and 100 percent share.
