Negros Occidental Awards Cash Incentives to NIRAAM Medalists

Negros occidental: The Negros Occidental provincial government on Wednesday distributed cash incentives worth PHP1.35 million to student-athletes who won medals in the first Negros Island Region Athletic Association Meet (NIRAAM) earlier this month. Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the giving out of awards together with Schools Governance and Operations Division chief Romeo Sison Sr. of the Department of Education-Division of Negros Occidental at the Capitol Social Hall.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 417 gold medalists each received PHP1,500, amounting to a total of PHP625,500, while the 236 silver medalists were awarded PHP1,000 each, totaling PHP236,000. The 104 bronze medalists received PHP800 each, summing up to PHP83,200. The remaining amount was distributed to the coaches and trainers of the outstanding athletes.

The Negrense medalists were led by swimmer Ethan Base from Do±a Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School in La Carlota City. Base was declared the most bemedalled athlete of NIRAAM 2026 after securing seven gold medals. The gold medalists are set to represent the NIR in the Palarong Pambansa 2026, which will be hosted by Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 31, 2026.
