NDRRMC Verifying 52 Reported Deaths Amid Typhoon Tino Onslaught

Manila: The 52 reported deaths attributed to the onslaught of Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) are undergoing validation, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, in its latest situational report, the agency noted that 50 of the reported fatalities are from Region 7 (Central Visayas) and two in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas). This figure is more than double the earlier reported 26 deaths.

The number of injured persons, still undergoing confirmation, is currently placed at 10, while those missing are estimated at 13.

A total of 203,595 families were affected, translating to 705,549 persons residing in 2,799 barangays across Mimaropa, Region 5 (Bicol Region), Region 6 (Western Visayas), Negros Island Region, Region 7, Region 8, and Caraga.

As of the latest updates, 10,981 families are seeking temporary shelter in 3,894 evacuation centers, while another 27,698 families are being assisted outside. These are residents who have opted to stay with relatives.

About 70,540 families in seven regions were preemptively evacuated, the disaster response agency reported.
