Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting a "deep-dive validation" into the alleged involvement of 10 former police officials in criminal syndicates. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that the probe is being led by the Intelligence Group and the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
According to Philippines News Agency, Gen. Nartatez mentioned that the investigation is not only focusing on the current activities of these former officials but also on their potential connections within the organization. He emphasized the importance of understanding the full scope of their involvement to address the issue comprehensively.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla previously disclosed that these former officers, who once held ranks of major and captain, have formed their own criminal groups after being dismissed from the PNP for grave offenses. However, their identities have not been disclosed.
Nartatez has directed the Intelligence Group and the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group to conduct a thorough validation process. He has also mandated a review of internal monitoring systems to prevent post-dismissal corruption. Additionally, he has committed to enhancing ethics training, anti-corruption workshops, and early detection mechanisms, particularly in sensitive units, to deter future misconduct.
