NAIA Bolsters Security with 110 Additional Screeners for ‘Undas’ Travel Surge

Manila: An additional 110 screeners have been deployed by the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) ahead of the expected influx for the ‘Undas’ break. To date, there are 1,203 OTS personnel across NAIA terminals and 1,232 personnel in other airports nationwide, OTS Acting Administrator Jose Briones Jr. told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the OTS is ensuring 24/7 security monitoring in preparation for the expected surge in travelers. Security auditors have been deployed to ensure that airport operators are properly and adequately implementing security measures aligned with both national and international standards.

“We also do regular preventive maintenance of all security screening equipment to avoid breakdowns, particularly in anticipation of increased passenger volume,” Briones stated. The OTS has also launched an information campaign on travel dos and don’ts and a list of prohibited items to aid passengers in preparing for their journey.

The reminders for travelers include limiting baggage to essential items for faster processing at screening checkpoints, packing sharp or pointed objects in checked baggage, ensuring appropriate licenses and permits when transporting firearms and ammunition, and adhering to liquid restrictions for carry-on baggage. Passengers are encouraged to visit the OTS website for the updated list of prohibited items.

The national holiday on October 31 allows Filipinos to return to their provinces for the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day weekend, leading to the anticipated increase in passenger volume at airports.
