N. Mindanao Fish Supply Expected to Remain Stable Beyond Holidays

Northern mindanao: Northern Mindanao is expected to maintain an abundant fish supply beyond the holiday season, with up to 50 tons potentially available daily by 2026, an industry leader said Friday. Irene Floro, chairperson of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the city's role as a top regional market for marine products.

According to Philippines News Agency, Floro stated, "We are ready to supply around 40 to 50 tons of fish per day this holiday season." She noted that the Department of Trade and Industry is actively monitoring prices to prevent sharp increases. Most of the region's tuna and marine products are sourced from Zamboanga and General Santos City, where harvests remain plentiful.

Floro, who also works as a fish wholesaler, highlighted the challenges posed by high transportation and logistics costs. These costs have led to price competition from suppliers based in Cebu and Manila, despite Mindanao's increasing fish supply.
