Manila: The Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) Tour of Luzon 2026 has partnered with the Philippine Sports Institute (PSI) to launch a five-leg webinar series for participating cyclists and coaches starting on April 6. The series is designed to provide practical strategies to enhance training, race day performance, and recovery, offering an additional layer of support for participating teams.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PSI, as the sports science and training arm of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), aims to empower coaches, enhance high-performance development, and support the holistic well-being of athletes through its programs. PSI Director Pearl Managuelod emphasized the importance of this initiative in a recent news release.
Arrey Perez, MPTC Tour of Luzon chief executive officer and chief organizer, expressed gratitude for the partnership, highlighting the continuous evolution of the event. Perez noted the involvement of new partners each year, which contributes to upgrading not only the race itself but also the holistic safety and well-being of the athletes.
The webinar sessions, each lasting up to 75 minutes, will cover topics such as the Physiological Demands of Competing in Heat and Humidity, Hydration and Nutrition Strategies for Maximum Performance, Training Load Management and Recovery for Multi-stage Races, Mental Toughness and Team Communication, and Anti-Doping.
This initiative marks the beginning of a broader collaboration between the MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026 and the PSI. It extends beyond virtual sessions to comprehensive on-ground support across all 14 stages of the race, scheduled from April 29 to May 13.
Services provided include sports programs that feature hydration monitoring and individualized fueling plans, education aligned with anti-doping standards, sports psychology support through daily consultations, and athlete care. Additionally, sports physiotherapy services are available, including injury prevention screening, recovery treatments, and coordination with the medical team.
Through this collaboration, the MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026 aims to deliver a premier cycling competition while fostering a safer, more advanced, and athlete-centered sporting environment in the Philippines.
