Most ‘Safer Cities’ Violations Settled Through Warnings

Manila: Majority of more than 164,000 violation cases under the 'Safer Cities' initiative were resolved through warnings, indicating the police's non-punitive approach.

According to Philippines News Agency, the latest Philippine National Police (PNP) data shows that 164,220 cases were recorded from April 6, when the campaign was launched by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), to April 25. Of the total, 62,025 resulted in fines, 2,732 led to charges, and 99,463 were resolved through warnings, the PNP said in a news release Monday.

In Metro Manila, a total of 7,349 cases were recorded, with the Southern Police District logging the highest with 2,060, followed by the Northern Police District, 1,848; Quezon City Police District, 1,384; Eastern Police District, 1,085; and Manila Police District, 972. Of these, 2,881 resulted in fines, 88 were filed in court and 4,380 were addressed through warnings and release, 'highlighting the PNP's continued emphasis on guidance and corrective measures,' the PNP said.

Common violations included drinking and smoking in public places (2,039), curfew-related incidents involving minors (447), roaming without shirts (316), and karaoke use beyond allowed hours (206). Another 4,341 cases involved other local ordinance-related concerns.
