Pasig City:The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local government units are finalizing traffic and safety plans for Undas 2026 and the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, with road excavation works set to be suspended.
According to Philippines News agency, MMDA Chair Romando "Don" Artes stated in a press conference at the MMDA headquarters that early preparations are necessary as Undas, or All Saints' and All Souls' Day, coincides with the regional summit, necessitating closer coordination among agencies.
The MMDA will deploy 2,419 personnel to manage traffic and provide public assistance around major cemeteries from October 24 to November 3, 2026. The agency will also coordinate with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police for surprise drug testing at selected bus terminals to ensure commuter safety.
For the ASEAN Summit, permits for public events such as fun runs and processions will be suspended in several cities, including Manila and Pasay, from October 24 to November 20, with partial and full lockdowns planned for key areas. A moratorium on road excavation works will be in effect from November 1 to December 23, 2026, to reduce road disruptions during the summit and the Christmas season.
