Misamis occidental: The Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Office (MOCPPO) relieved a police officer on Wednesday, pending an investigation after footage of him pointing a gun at a civilian circulated online.
According to Philippines News Agency, Col. Reynaldo Maclang, MOCPPO chief, stated that the police officer, identified as Corporal Henry Boquida, was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Boquida has been disarmed and placed under restrictive custody at the Police Provincial Office.
"The ongoing investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, and appropriate administrative and criminal charges will be filed," Maclang said. The officer, who was assigned to the Sapang Dalaga Municipal Police Station, was seen in the video handling a firearm and pointing it at a civilian with whom he had an argument at a neighborhood sundry store.
The incident, which took place in Barangay Antipolo, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte on June 21, drew sharp criticism. The National Police Commission also condemned the incident, reflecting concerns over the conduct of law enforcement personnel.
