Misamis Oriental Sees Significant Decline in Dengue Cases in 2025

Misamis oriental: The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Misamis Oriental has announced a marked reduction in dengue cases for the year 2025, attributing this success to proactive measures undertaken in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dr. Teodoro Yu Jr., the acting chief of PHO, revealed in a radio interview that the number of dengue cases in 2025 was estimated at around 2,000. This figure shows a significant decline from over 5,000 cases reported in 2024. Dr. Yu emphasized the importance of preventive measures, stating, "As directed by Governor Juliette Uy, we were actively responding on the ground; it's better to prevent dengue (in communities) than treating them in hospitals."

The PHO has been at the forefront of health initiatives, focusing on health surveillance, vaccination, and sanitation. Between 2024 and 2025, the office spearheaded dengue surveillance efforts, which played a crucial role in the reduction of cases.

The success of these efforts is credited to the PHO's effective coordination with provincial health workers and barangay coordinators, ensuring the implementation of health programs across communities. This strategic collaboration has been instrumental in combating the spread of dengue in Misamis Oriental.
