Misamis occidental: Misamis Occidental ruled the weeklong Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) sports meet which concluded in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on Tuesday. The province had a total haul of 91 gold, 86 silver, and 89 bronze medals.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bukidnon province secured the second position with 67 gold, 43 silver, and 61 bronze medals, while Misamis Oriental ranked third, collecting 62 gold, 80 silver, and 79 bronze medals. The NMRAA is an annual event organized by the Department of Education, with winners representing the region in the Palarong Pambansa, which is set to be hosted by Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur in May.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection inaugurated the 10th National Fire Olympics at Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex in Oroquieta City, also on Tuesday. With the theme, 'Bumbero Alagad ng Kaligtasan, Kasangga sa Asenso ng Bayan,' the annual event gathers over 700 participants from 18 regions across the country to compete in three specialized rescue and firefighting disciplines.
"This event is more than just a competition. It is a testament to the strength, discipline, and unwavering commitment of our firefighters across the nation," BFP Director for Operations, C/Supt. Robert Pacis, said in his opening address.
