Maguindanao del Norte: Senior Bangsamoro leaders convened Monday at the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) headquarters to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful elections and democratic transition, officials said Tuesday. MILF chair Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim, BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, and Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal met at Camp Darapanan in Maguindanao del Norte ahead of the May 12 polls.
According to Philippines News Agency, Macacua expressed his satisfaction in being present with the MILF Chairman Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim and Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal to discuss the upcoming United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) Miting de Avance and other significant issues. The UBJP, which acts as the political arm of the MILF, has put forward candidates for various positions ranging from governor to municipal councilor. The group plans to hold its miting de avance on May 7.
Macacua highlighted their singular objective, stating, “We have one goal-to promote peace, prosperity, and unity towards a strong Bangsamoro,” reflecting their vision that extends beyond political ambitions. The meeting marks a significant step as BARMM transitions from a revolutionary movement to embracing full democratic governance.
Macacua further noted, “Seeing these leaders side-by-side sends a clear message that unity is being built daily,” underscoring the collaborative efforts to fortify the region’s future.
