Manila: The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced its commitment to exploring various energy conservation strategies in response to the administration's directive for government offices to implement energy-saving measures.
According to Philippines News Agency, the MIAA has introduced a four-day workweek for employees and implemented shifting schedules in critical departments such as the Airport Police Department, Medical Services, Engineering Services, and Operations and Compliance Group. Additionally, the authority has reduced fuel allocation for service vehicles by 10 percent.
The organization is also evaluating the integration of renewable energy sources into its infrastructure plans. Recently, solar panels were installed on a building near the Our Lady of the Airways Parish. MIAA General Manager Eric Ines emphasized the long-term benefits of solar energy in combating climate change, despite the initial investment required.
Furthermore, the MIAA has encouraged its personnel to maximize natural lighting by arranging workspaces near windows, utilize energy-efficient lighting, use stairs instead of elevators, and conduct virtual meetings to reduce energy consumption. Official travel is restricted to essential engagements only, and priority is given to procuring energy-saving appliances.
