Metro Manila Police Praised for Ensuring Peaceful State of the Nation Address

Manila: The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, commended the police force in Metro Manila for their effective security measures during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA). The event concluded without any reported incidents, despite challenging weather conditions.

According to Philippines News Agency, Aberin emphasized the peaceful nature of the protest actions, crediting the successful coordination with various groups. The police facilitated a secure environment for participants to exercise their right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The NCRPO maintained maximum tolerance, ensuring these rights were respected in line with legal requirements and permits issued by the Quezon City government.

Aberin extended his appreciation to other government agencies for their support, including the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Department of Health (DOH), and the military. Personnel were strategically stationed at key locations, including chokepoints, rally zones, first aid stations, and around the House of Representatives.

He noted that operational and intelligence units of the NCRPO played a vital role in preventing potential threats and maintaining order. Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, officer-in-charge of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), reported that no untoward incidents, arrests, or confrontations occurred among the 4,000 protestors near St. Peter Parish along Commonwealth Avenue.

Silvio attributed the peaceful outcome to the cooperation of protest leaders who adhered to security protocols, ensuring all activities complied with Batas Pambansa Blg. 880 (BP 880). He highlighted the significance of inter-agency coordination and leadership in the successful deployment for this year’s event.
